GANGS IN CYBERPUNK 2020

by Gary Astleford (ocelot@connectnet.com)

The article is a set of tables that allows you to create quickly some cool and individual gangs for the use in Cyberpunk 2020. Its tells you how big the gang is, what the focus, equipment and power of the gang is going to be.

You may roll the same gang type twice. This means that the gang in question is very narrow in its goals and its means of achieving them. This isn’t a bad thing at all, and it does nothing to make the gang more or less exciting, depending on how the GM interprets his results.

There is, however, a special case. If “Puppet Gang” is rolled, make a note of the result and roll on the chart twice more. The following two rolls indicate the Puppet Gang’s front – the type of gang people perceive them to be. If either of the two rolls result in “Puppet Gang” again, then it is common knowledge that the gang is, in fact, corporate owned and operated.

Note that not all gangs are evil, nasty, antisocial, and violent. Some are merely driven to such a course by outside influence and the pressure of the street. In addition, not all gangs are brought together because of poverty and lack of parental attentions. Imagine a gang made up of spoiled rich kids who douse vagrants with lighter fluid and set them on fire. Sound familiar? Continue reading “Ocelot's Gang Creation Chart”

The Western Stars – A Cyberpunk 2020 Posergang

The Western Stars

Author: Ocelot (ocelot@connectnet.com)

WESTERN STARS POSER GANG

(Poser/Combat Gang with Nostalgia tendencies, circa 2020)

[Mockery’s Note: This gang is loosely based on the Western Stars posergang mentioned briefly in the Night City Sourcebook. Gary went apeshit one day, and here are the results. He says he only has about twenty more gangs to go … ]

Gang Name: Western Stars
Members: @ 85+
Threat Level: D
Threat Code: B3C (*)
Average Member’s Age: 21 years old
Gang Age: 9 years old
Controlled Turf: Several blocks in Night City’s upper west side
Expansion: Some controlled areas of South Night City

(*: The Night City Sourcebook lists the Western Stars’ armor code as a D. Though it is true that they use light armor when they use armor at all, I feel that a D rating is much too low in regards to this extrapolation of the gang and its activities, so I’ve raised it to a C. However, about 25% of the gang (purists, mostly) use little, if any, armor, and the D rating applies to them more than anyone else.) Continue reading “The Western Stars – A Cyberpunk 2020 Posergang”

TPS – A Cyberpunk 2020 Gang

TPS

Author: Ghostlord <The_Ghost_Lord@hotmail.com> of The Cyberpunk Revolution (no link, site long gone).

TPS: Two Party System, is a loser party gang. All members are borderline dorphers and the gang claims no turf. They only barely resemble a real gang, consisting mostly of college dropouts and losers who couldn’t cut it anywhere else. They are nomadic and avoid all other gangs. They are usually found trying to get into some club or other, or trying to find a real party. They real unfortunate fact about this gang is: they will always be around in some form or other.

Sweethearts – A Cyberpunk 2020 Gang

Sweethearts

Author: Lucifer (lucifer@tpom.cts.com)

The Sweethearts are a gang of bully bitches who hang in Little Italy. Leather, pheromone perfume, chain mail, buckles, cartridge belts, chains and spikes and studs and lipstick, lace and fishnet hose. Spiked collars, barbed and poisoned rings, monoknives. Ivory-handled straight razors. Butch and baby-doll leather-and-lace looks. Mostly bilingual, anglo-european, and anglo-afro-american, refusing membership to pure blacks, whites, Russians, Hispanics, and Asians, though they do maintain an uneasy truce with the Vietnamese gangs whose turf is further west, and are on almost cordial terms with the Dragons.

Wardrobe & Style +2 Intimidate +3 Streetwise +3 Awareness +3 Hide/Evade +2 Shadow/Track +3 Athletics +2 Dodge/Escape +2 Handgun +1 Tae Kwon Do +4 Melee +3 Bilingual (English, various) +10
Tae Kwon Do bonuses are Strike/Kick +3, Block/Sweep +2, Dodge +1. Typical weapons are brass knuckles (1d6+2), straight razors (1d6-1 AP), barbed rings (1d6/2 AP + 4d6 poison, 1/2 d. with BOD save), and some handguns, usually cheap plastic 9mm (2d6+1, 2 ROF, 8 clip, UR).

Armor varies, but is generally spiked knee/elbow pads, SP 10, +2 to strike/kick damage (AP), worn with light to no armor (some leather), SP 1-4, and occasional chainmail of SP 10, torso only.

Credsticks @ 1d10 x 10 Euro. Will strike at an opponent’s exposed face and hands with poisoned rings, and will only attack with odds of 3-1 or better.

These ladies are great to drop on a player as an unexpected romantic harassment, or as a slap to sexist PC’s, as the Sweeties cluster around a good (or bad) looking character and pester him (“Hey, baby!”). They also work as a variation on the old, “one of them is an important corporate’s daughter” routine.

PillBoyz – A Cyberpunk 2020 Gang

PillBoyz

Author: Ghostlord <The_Ghost_Lord@hotmail.com> of The Cyberpunk Revolution (no link, site long gone).

These poor suckers are sooo… outta their league. They are under heavy fire from the Night Stalkers and are being pushed right into BloodRazor turf. The gang was dealt a serious blow when the Night Stalkers grenaded the top leadership (hence the low threat rating). It is only a matter of time till these dorpers cease to exist.

The Mortuary Crew – A Cyberpunk 2020 Gang

The Mortuary Crew

Author: Ghostlord <The_Ghost_Lord@hotmail.com> of The Cyberpunk Revolution (no link, site long gone).

Another band worshiping Chomer Gang. These gatos follow the Chromatic/Death band Mortuary. These are some tough fuckers. Heavily armed and always ready for a fight. Their membership in NightCity is small thankfully, However they always travel in numbers. They claim the Ripper Club in the CZ as home and control a six block area around it. The mortuary crew along with the Sinners And Saints have formed a pack to take down the Blackhearts, and violent episodes are already erupting.

Knights – A Cyberpunk 2020 Gang

Knights

Author: Ghostlord <The_Ghost_Lord@hotmail.com> of The Cyberpunk Revolution (no link, site long gone).

When the Knights first hit the streets everyone was happy…yet another Guardian Gang to play with thought the boosters: We are saved thought the Civies, then came reality for both, the Knights though they claim turf and keep it protected, they do so because they want exclusive Party rights to the area. Thats right a Guardian/Party Gang for the New Age. Aside from their tenacity for “drink and skirt”, and their iron grip on gang activity in their home turf, there is little of interest to say of this gang.

The Hood – A Cyberpunk 2020 Gang

The Hood

Author: Ghostlord <The_Ghost_Lord@hotmail.com> of The Cyberpunk Revolution (no link, site long gone).

A Guardian Gang devoted to protecting the Combat Zone innocent, the Hood. In the tradition of the Blood, the Crip, and the Folk these boys have branched out to all the major cities and even small town America. They attempt to root out and kill the most violent gangs and individuals in an area and keep them out. They spend most of their time killing known rapists, murders and thieves. Membership in this gang consists mostly of ex-cops, ex-corporate solos, and hardened CZ vets. They are ruled by a seven member council that dictates gang policy. So far no gang in NightCity has paid them much mind, however the newly elected leadership is beginning a more aggressive anti-gang campaign. Violent conflict is imminent so watch your back chombatta.
