Martial Art for Normads in Cyberpunk 2020

El Ciendo Rock – A Martial Art for Normads

Author: Gryphon

[The article deals with a fictional martial arts style for the normads in RTG’s Cyberpunk 2020 roleplaying game.]

So here is a contribution worked up by me with the assistance of Sharps, one of my players. This “Form” was developed by Nomad culture as an outgrowth of the Warrior sub-culture. It is a distilation of the techniques used by the Warriors of a tribe in situations like bars, vehicles, and town alleyways. This is a Close-in Combat Form. Its availability is pretty good for Nomads, not so good for everyone else.

Stat Colume Random Notes/Explanations
Multiplier: 3 -1 for any true Nomad
Strike: 2 Knives,Bottles,Chairs,Etc
Punch: 2 Elbow,Headbutt,Etc
Kick: 1 Knee,Heel Kick,Etc
Disarm: Take his Weapon? Why?
Sweep: Too many chairs in bars.
Block: 1
Dodge: Close in Form,Not Mobile
Grapple: 1 Grab the Gonk by his Nads
Throw: 1 Pick him up and toss him
Hold: 1
Choke: 1 Or the throat works too
Escape: 1 Defense against above
Ram:
Breakfall: 1 If you use this manuver.

Breakfall works like Block or Dodge vs. Throw, succeed for no damage, fail for MA rank less damage.

Any Questions, Just drop me a line in the comments.

Handprothese mit Gefühl

with one comment

Online enhanced Lifepath Generator

with 4 comments

Arcady0 has created a fantastic lifepath generator. Its useable for all kinds of cyberpunk games, so that even those orknosed Shadowrunners can get the benefit of great lifepath, cyberpunk 2020 like. They use the “fantastic punk” setting.

Real cpunks like us use “classic gamer” or “literary C-punk”. The former is a bit munchkin, the latter just right.

Great work, Arcady0

Here is a thread for comments in the “View from the edge” forum to discuss the generator.

Electorthermal Weapons in Cyberpunk 2020

with 14 comments

ELECTROTHERMAL WEAPONS

Author: unknown.

These weapons are very unrealistic and overpowered. The default rules don’t talk about the many disadvantages of such weapons. Will all know that an electrothermal upgrade can only be preformed on a gun that fires cased shells. While the increase in firepower is considerable, the large list of disadvantages may make you think twice about using such weapons.

Heat:

Think about it, using plasma to fire a copper cased shell is not by any means smart. The copper casing ejects from the side of the gun through the sliding action. These casings are extremely hot and can burn your skin. Even normal casings can burn you if you catch them, but with electrothermal casings the chances of starting fires and such are greatly increased. Burning your hand on a casing inflicts 1 point for a normal casing and 1d6/2 for a electrothermal casing. There is also a 15% chance that a hot casing will start a fire if it lands on something flammable. Read the rest of this entry »

Cyberware: iSpy

The SONAR Scaning and Cartography System (SSCS)

without comments

The SONAR Scaning and Cartography System (SSCS)

The CyberPunk 2.0.2.0 DFW Node has a neat little piece of equipment you can find below. I would guess that it being briefcase sized is a bit huge. Think of it as a plug in for your PDA/’deck and it works out just fine with only 2.3 kg for a dedicated antenna. The antenna is connected over a wireless network.

New from Teletronics!
The SONAR Scaning and Cartography System (SSCS)
6500eb /8.3 kg

The SONAR Scaning and Cartography System (SSCS) provides you with priceless information and ads a new dimension to surveillence- literally! This briefcase sized scanner sends out its ultrahigh frequency sound waves and records their return, accurately mapping out a one-quarter mile radius area! No longer must you kick in a door and wonder what is behind it. You will know thanks to the experts at Teletronics.
This unit is self powered and comes with all the features you have come to expect from Teletronics. A three dimensional map is generated and stored in the onboard system. This can be viewed with the included monitor, or projected by any compatible holoprojector.
You may be asking how it can get better than this, but it does! Just set to SSCS where you want it and leave it over night. Thanks to its internal power supply it will run for a full twenty-four hours recording movement within its scanning range. Not only that, new technology has paved the path to more! By using input from cyperoptics or by manual input on the easy to use rendering panel, you can add color to the objects it records, making a full virtual construct.
If you can do without this, more power to you. But remember, privacy is a matter of the past. Get yours before you’re the only only left blind in the ‘hood.

Game terms: The SSCS stores information at a rate of 2 MU per hour. 20 MU are included onboard. An initial scan takes 1d10 minutes in a quiet area, 3d10 in noisey areas. The inital output is a “wire mesh” construction that can be rendered, taking an additional 1d6 minutes per minute of recording. Noise generators will negate the SSCS in the generator’s area of effect. The SSCS cannot be configured to eavesdrop. It does show the relative thickness and composition of objects- a solid metal door would be shown as a solid mass while a wooden door would show the air space between panels.

Night City Map

with 8 comments

Night City is the hometown of Cyberpunk. Most use it as a campaign-setting. Since the Night City Sourcebook is no longer available, most don’t have a map. But you need one – I can tell by the amount of people asking google for a “night city map” and then being send here.

RTG hasn’t allowed to republish the original map, so I can’t help you there. BUT on the web there is one map that shows greater Night City, which might help you. It can be found here. Another Map reminds me very closely of the city center, but might be just the one from the main sourcebook, which you probably already have.

But there are a lot of sites out there with other, less fictional cities, making them useable for a cyberpunk campaign. I’m going to list some and would ask you to add any other you know in the comments.

Or you play on Mars.

The Mafia Job Starter Kit – A Cyberpunk 2020 Campain

with 2 comments

The Mafia Job Starter Kit

Author: Kristian de Valle (kris@cxa.com.au)

Situation: The Italian Mafia is looking at expanding their operations across to the City Center and the North, and down through the Arts District and the University. They seek to re-establish the old stranglehold that the Italian families held on much of N.C. They hire the characters on as a specialized ‘strike team’. This is deliberately ambiguous as the mob will use the edgers as anonymous hitters and errand boys and everything in between.

Much of the expansion will be light at first, such as protection rackets, drug dealings, black market gear of all sorts. Recruiting both manpower and prostitutes; they will also be into pimping and meat puppet rackets. They already have their fingers in a number of small Corp pies and have OS interests. They have a lot of goods tied up at the docks and marina warehouses. This ranges from luxury items to black market gear.

Gangs will be a problem; such as the Bozos, and especially the Voodoo boys, who will employ the black arts and ugly drugs to fuck around with anyone who threatens their turf. The Uni will be a no-go zone, and this will make it especially hard to catch any of the V-boys. Read the rest of this entry »
