WELCOME TO THE LA METROPLEX

Name: LA METROPLEX (a.k.a.: San-Angeles Metroplex)Population: 750,000,000

Businesses: Moderate to Heavy Industry, Entertainment, Trade, Computers, Electronics, Tourism, Chemical Production

Background: The San-Angeles Metroplex (LA Metroplex. called the Plex’ by ones who live in it) is a large city located on the west coast of what remains of the U.S. This Mega-City sprawls from the Santa Barbara area (which now is a suburb of the Metroplex) to the border of Mexico and as far east as what remains of San Bernardino. What is left of Old Orange County is now the site of the Happy Kingdom which features the largest amusement park in the world. The only section of the Metroplex that is near uninhabited is a length of land between the Happy Kingdom and San Diego known as the San Onofre stretch. San Diego is the current capital of the SoCal free state.

History: Up until the early 1990s, The L.A area was a thriving city with big goals. However, with Orange County declaring bankruptcy, the rising crime in the area, and the massive, unchecked pollution it was evident that the city was in a state of decline. Moreover, the extremely hot summers and the acid rains generally started to make the L.A. area a living hell to live in. During the first stages of the Collapse, an enterprising entertainment company effectively ‘bought’ the struggling Orange County area and began expansion of its current theme park. Thus creating much needed jobs for the region and effectively saving the economy of not only the county, but that of the SoCal region. This is the reason why the L.A. area suffered less than the other cities in the U.S. during the Collapse. In the later part of 1998, a 10.5 earthquake shatters the region killing an estimated 65,000. Roughly 35% of the Los Angeles City was claimed by the Pacific Ocean. Once again, the corporation responsible for ‘saving’ Orange County uses their seemly endless funds to help rebuild Los Angeles. It was at this point that the government realized that if they were to make it through the Collapse, the cities would need to unite and stabilize their economic base. With the help of the newly created Happy Kingdom, they did just that. Thus was created the San-Angeles Metroplex, the largest city in California. California became a Free State in the year 2002 backed by Alaskan and Texan representatives who already have attained free state status. With such a status, a Free State would have quasi-independence with respect to the U.S. In year of 2012, Northern California voted to secede from Southern California after the L.A. Metroplex attempted to control the northern counties using Pro-urban and Anti-rural legislation. An action for which they will be forever reviled by those in the south. With no central government, the SoCal legislature decided to locate their capital in the region of San Diego, since the part of the greater L.A. region was currently underwater and Orange County effectively an arcology unto themselves. Another catastrophe occurred in the year 2015, when SoCal’s only nuclear powerplant (San Onofre) experienced a meltdown. This disaster killed over 2,000 people and literally made the area completely uninhabitable. This also created a transportation gap between the north and south regions of the Metroplex. With that, the Metroplex embarked on a construction project of massive proportions: To excavate the irradiated soil around the site and dump it into the ocean, bring untainted soil from the desert and build a radiation-resistant covered superhighway extending from the L.A. region down to the capital of San Diego.

The Present: The San-Angeles Metroplex today is a very large city. With no other way to expand (since the eastern deserts have become uninhabitable), the only way to grow is upward. Skyscrapers reach through the sky and into the smog soaked clouds. The central region still is experiencing economic growth due to the city-sized amusement-theme park known throughout the world as The Happy Kingdom. Orange County has effectively been walled off from the rest of the city from Old Anaheim to Yorba Linda and from Brea down to San Clemente. This arcology is used primarily by the Happy Kingdom employees, guests and tourists. The south-central of Old Los Angeles is now the cities largest Combat Zone including the area of Long Beach. The upper portion of Los Angeles is still being used as a movie making capital with DMS and Network 54 dominating the scenes. The area of the meltdown (called the San Onofre stretch) has now been completed and transportation to and from the upper metroplex to the capital has resumed. Radiation levels are now down to acceptable levels, but one still needs to wear a rad-suit for the hour drive between the two points to avoid the effects altogether. The southern part of the Metroplex contains the capital of SoCal. Here entertainment can be sought with the Happy Kingdom By The Sea and the West Coast’s largest Zoo. The state regulates all matters within the Free State of Southern California from this area. The LA Metroplex is especially noted for the levels of violence that wrack the region. Though crime and pollution are ever present within this metroplex, critics feel that the LA Metroplex is slowly climbing from the economic pit in which the city is still entrenched. However, combined with the unbearable heat during the summers and the pollution, the inhabitants are always on edge. Clean air vendors dot the corners and everyone wear acid-proof clothing to protect themselves. In addition, everyone carries heavy weaponry and all are itching for an excuse to use it. All these factors rocketed the LA Metroplex into fame as the 2nd most dangerous city in the U.S.
